Scalloping in Port St Joe Bay!

Labor Day weekend in 2018 we made an spontaneous trip down to Port St. Joe / Cape San Blas to go scalloping for the weekend. We were talking with our neighbors the week before about how we wanted to try scalloping before the season ended and decided, why not??? So we all went!

This post is a little bittersweet though :( We had a FANTASTIC time and were already planning a trip again for next yet. But as you know, this area was devastated by Hurricane Micheal just a few weeks later. Many of the places we saw and visited are no longer standing.

Below are pictures of our visit. We are still hoping that we can go back next year after the area has had time to recover.

We got up bright and early Saturday morning to scallop. We wanted to get done by lunch time so we could get back to watch the 1st Auburn game of the season! Here the kids are waiting while we put the boat in the water.

The first day on the water we didn't catch one single scallop!!! But the kids were happy with the stash of sand dollars they found.

After scalloping, we came back to the town house and cleaned up.  A little rain blew threw so we played some board games while we waited for Auburn to play.

After the game, we walked down to the beach. Our townhouse was only a couple hundred yards away. While the beach was beautiful, its still not the gulf coast. We really do have the prettiest beaches in the world!

One really cool thing about Cape San Blas is the beaches are private and you are allowed to build campfires. So we made S'mores on the beach!

The also had huge sand crabs!

We went scalloping again on Sunday, we waited until a little later in the day hoping to have better luck.

Jackson was like a fish and never got out of the water. He was also very excited to be the first person to find a scallop!!

Aubrie was not a huge fan of snorkeling. She enjoyed staying on the boat, collecting everyone's scallops and then putting them in the cooler!

This a horse conch we found!

Our neighbors, Barry and Denise, that went with us :)

Here are all the scallops we caught, about a gallon of them. Scalloping was a lot of fun, sort of like the adult version of an Easter Egg Hunt.

Jackson was very excited to see the one orange scallop. He had done some research and said they are rare!

All cleaned and ready to cook!

They were delicious! Much better than any you would have in a restaurant! But it was a lot of work for a small plateful!!

Yes, the KiKi song was our theme song for the weekend! LOL
